What Is a Donor-Advised Fund?

A Simple, Flexible Charitable Giving Account

A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a charitable giving account that gives you ongoing, flexible involvement in your philanthropy. It’s a convenient tool for individuals, families, and businesses who want to be personally involved in charitable giving. Once your fund is established, you can add to it at any time and recommend grants immediately or in the future.

Unlike a private foundation, a donor-advised fund is less costly, easier to administer, and more flexible. You take your tax deduction up front, then choose your own schedule for giving as your charitable dollars grow tax-free. Our experienced philanthropic team provides guidance whenever you need it — on your own or alongside your financial advisor.

Donor Story

Why Northern Kentucky Families Give Through Horizon

We chose Horizon for our family’s donor advised fund, because it is an accessible, Kentucky-focused organization. We are able to direct funds to local nonprofits of our choosing, many times introducing them to Horizon and helping those organizations reach a broader charitable audience locally. In turn, Horizon comes to us with opportunities to support other local charitable causes. It has been especially meaningful to bring our children into decisions about where to direct support.
