Boone County Water Rescue Fund

Boone County Water Rescue is a dedicated, volunteer-based organization made up of more than 50 highly trained members who collectively contribute over 18,000 hours each year to water rescue and recovery operations. Available 24/7, the team serves Boone, Kenton, and Campbell counties and supports governmental agencies throughout Northern Kentucky. Operating under Boone County Emergency Management, the team plays a critical role in protecting lives and property on the region’s waterways.

The most visible aspect of Boone County Water Rescue is its fleet of specialized rescue vessels. The team operates a variety of boats designed for lakes and rivers, including advanced units equipped with state-of-the-art sonar, radar, and communications technology. These resources allow the team to patrol more than 83 miles of the Ohio River and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies. In addition to emergency response, the team provides a wide range of services, including water safety education, routine boat patrols, evidence collection, and vehicle, aircraft, and victim recovery. No other organization in the region offers this same comprehensive level of water-based emergency services.

To ensure the long-term sustainability and growth of these essential services, the Boone County Water Rescue Fund has been established in partnership with Horizon Community Foundation. This fund was created to support the mission, operations, and future expansion of the Boone County Water Rescue Team as demands on river safety and emergency response continue to increase.

A primary focus of the fund is supporting the development of a new riverfront property that will significantly enhance the team’s capabilities along the Ohio River. Plans include the construction of a 62’ x 144’ rescue station designed to house boats, vehicles, dive gear, and other critical equipment, as well as provide dedicated training and meeting space for volunteers. The site will also include dock access to allow faster deployment during emergencies, improving response times and overall efficiency. The project will be completed in multiple phases, from site preparation to construction and final improvements, with an anticipated completion date of March 2027.

Community members and businesses play an important role in making this vision possible. Contributions to the Boone County Water Rescue Fund through Horizon Community Foundation help ensure this vital volunteer organization has the resources needed to continue protecting lives, promoting water safety, and serving the Northern Kentucky region for years to come.
